Behind The Lens | About Tim Gray

“The single most important component of a camera is the twelve inches behind it.” – Ansel Adams

It’s not just about the picture. It’s the story behind the image and the creativity of the photographer to capture it. My passion for photography started young.

A History

As a child, my grandfather and parents were always shooting family memories and events with 35mm film cameras. As such, we were also always visiting local stores to pick up prints. Whenever I had the chance, I was taking my own photos as often as I could as well.

Most of my early interests involved nature, family, and experiences. For instance, when I was in my late teens, I went snorkeling in Hawaii to capture images of sea turtles. It was  amazing! I’ve always appreciated the effort that goes into taking a quality image and will always work hard myself to do so. Onward.

In 2008, I acquired my first digital camera while in Indianapolis to take high quality images of construction job sites. My daughter now practices with it. 🙂 Otherwise, most of my photography interests were for myself and family and I rarely shared it.

Tim Gray Photography is Born

In early 2018, I finally took a step to chase my passion for photography. We upgraded the camera and gear, expanded equipment and lighting options, and more. My photography passion was re-born! Now, everyday I’m looking for new ways to capture great memories. I’ve also decided to pursue professional work commercially, in individual sessions, groups, and weddings. I’ve come to really enjoy working with clients to help them create the exciting images they need.

Additionally, I’ve decided to share what I’ve learned and involve others in learning with me. That is the basis of the Tim Gray Photography Blog on this site (LINK) and I hope you can learn something from my experiences. You can see some of those results through the galleries on this website, Instagram, or Facebook. I’m also open to getting together to hone our creative skills!

If you have any questions, personal, professional, or anything photography, please don’t hesitate to ask! I will help in any way I can.
